Social Contribution Activities

Approach to Social Contribution Activities

In addition to contributing to society through its core business, the ULVAC Group, which operates on a global scale, strives to make social contributions that benefit local communities by making use of its technologies and human resources, focusing on "Local Communities," "Environment" and "Education Support for Next Generation" for contribution activities.

Focus areas for contribution activities

[ESN]・・・Education Support for Next Generation  [LC]・・・Local Communities  [E]・・・Environment

Chigasaki space lesson and vacuum experiments  [ESN][LC]

  • Vacuum experiment classes and factory tours are held with the aim of developing human resources who will lead the next . This unique educational program creates opportunities for children to learn science and supports local education. Since 2020 , due in part to the effects of COVID-19, a small number of middle and high school students were invited to tour the plant. We will continue to create educational opportunities for children through vacuum and related technologies.

Internships for local high schools  [ESN][LC]

  • In the past, we had been active in accepting internships, conducting on-site vacuum experiment classes, and visiting factories a large numbers of people, but since the popularity of the COVID-19, these activities have been limited to safety considerations. However, we continue to engage with the local community from a different perspective, with one of the few high schools in Kanagawa Prefecture that offers inclusive education offering vocational experiences with an eye toward the future. As a receptionist to students, we are devising and implementing activities to provide explanations and guidance that are easier to understand and more fulfilling.

Participation in the Reforestation Partner System  [E][LC]

  • In Kanagawa Prefecture, where ULVAC Head Office/Plant is located, forests cover 39% of the prefecture's land area, a very low figure compared to the national average of 66%. Stewardship activities are being undertaken so as to bequeath flourishing forests, which serve as water sources, to the next generation. In support of this initiative, we have joined the "Reforestation Partner" system promoted by Kanagawa Prefecture. The amount of CO2 absorbed through forest stewardship under this program is calculated to be 247 tons over five years. We will continue engaging in various environmental activities to realize our goal for 2050, which is to contribute to creation of an environmentally friendly and sustainable society.

Sponsoring the Tree-Planting Festival [E][LC]

  • In order to promote the expansion of beautiful forests in Kyushu, Kagoshima Prefecture has established "Kyushu Forest Day" through a joint declaration between the seven prefectures of Kyushu and the Kyushu Regional Forest Office. Every year, a tree-planting festival is held to pass this tradition on to future generations. The festival participants include Kyushu residents, businesses, and forest volunteer groups. ULVAC sponsors this initiative and also participates directly in the tree-planting activities by planting cedar and mountain cherry seedlings in Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture. We will continue to sponsor the Tree-Planting Festival and contribute to the creation of a sustainable society.

Cleanup activity [E][LC]

  • Every May, the ULVAC Kagoshima Industrial Park holds a volunteer day to clean up the area. For more than 20 years, we have carried out activities such as cleaning the surrounding roads, cleaning the station building, visiting special care facilities for the elderly, cleaning wheelchairs and mowing grass. In the Chigasaki area, five ULVAC Group companies in Chigasaki cooperate in Southern Beach Cleanup activities and participate every year.

We will continue to do so as an effort to convey our gratitude to the local community.

Biotope initiatives  [E]

  • At the ULVAC Kagoshima Industrial Park, we have created a biotope (biological growth space) using wastewater from the plant to grow fireflies, killifish, and other larvae and release them. In cooperation with nearby elementary schools, we provide opportunities for local children to think about conservation of living organisms and the natural environment through activities such as releasing killifish and donating terrariums. We will continue our efforts to deepen cooperation with local communities through the use of biotopes.
