To whom this may concern:
It has been found that there has been incompatibility in safety notations on the fully closed external fan motor used for the following ULVAC vacuum pumps.
In this connection, corrective actions against this problem will be taken by ULVAC at no charge.
At this writing, we would like to assure you of our continuing efforts for quality control of the products.
Vacuum pumps with fully closed external fan motors that were supplied between December 1986 and June 2006.
The fully closed external fan motors that are currently used for the ULVAC vacuum pumps are inscribed with International Protection code IP40 - IP45, but it has been found by re-verification by the original manufacturer that there is a possibility of a finger being inserted through the gap in the cover. (See the figure below.) Although there has been no report that this caused any accident, but we have decided to notify our customers on this possibility for extra precaution.
In some models, there is a possibility of touching the fan slightly when a test finger is inserted through a notch of the external fan cover where there is no fin.
ULVAC will supply a replacement cover on which corrective action has been taken at no charge. The replacement will take 5 to 10 minutes per pump though it depends on the operational condition of the pump.
(The pump is to be at stop.)
This corrective action will be taken within the following period. May 19, 2008 to May 18, 2010
