“Announcement on Problem of Our Calibrated Leaks During Air Transportation”

Thank you very much for your warm support and business.
Recently, ULVAC calibrated leak membranes: CLM-09A (10-9 Pa∙m3/sec range) and CLM-07A (10-7 Pa∙m3/sec range) were found to possibly conflict with “the regulation for pressure vessels transportable by air or ship” by IATA (International Air Transport Association),Civil Aeronautics Law and Ship Safety Law via our company inside investigation.
Even though we believe that it is a very slight chance of happening any kind of breakage since these products have smaller containers, however, we will change transportation methods to sincerely adhere laws. With this situation, inconvenience might be caused to our customers when needing to do the recalibration works at their sites. Therefore, we would like to make the following announcement to accommodate the situation.

■Regulation with which the products conflict

Dangerous goods regulation, Division 2.2 Non-Flammable, Non-Toxic Gas We believe that the products conflict with the term “pressure not more than 280 kPa” in “Gases which are transported at a pressure not more than 280 kPa at 20ºC, or as refrigerated liquefied gases”.

■Our calibrated leak membranes conflicting with the regulation

• CLM-09A (10-9 Pa∙m3/sec range): 301 kPa
• CLM-07A (10-7 Pa∙m3/sec range): 501 kPa
* Other calibrated leaks do not conflict with the regulation, ex. CLM-08 (251 kPa) / CLM-10 (101 kPa).

■Transport for recalibration

• Within Japan, to send the products to us, designate transport by land. In the case of transport by air or ship, the products conflict with the above regulation.
• If the transport by air is required for some reason or because of transport from overseas, we would provide you alternative calibrated leaks by the calibration cost, which do not conflict with the IATA regulation.

■Purchase of new calibrated leaks

• We can supply the product which conforms at now. As for the details, please ask to our sales staff or the agency.
